Sandwich Ingredients
- 2 slices of bread (white, whole wheat, sourdough, etc.)
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
- 2–3 slices of cheese (cheddar, American, or your choice)
Instructions
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) to ensure the sandwich cooks evenly and crisps up nicely.
- Butter the Bread: Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread to achieve a golden, crispy exterior once cooked.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Place the cheese slices between the unbuttered sides of the bread so that the buttered sides face outwards for grilling.
- Prepare for Air Frying: Place the sandwich in the air fryer basket. You can use a parchment liner to prevent sticking if desired.
- Air Fry the Sandwich: Cook the sandwich for 4-5 minutes, then carefully flip it and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Cool and Serve: Let the grilled cheese sit for 1-2 minutes before slicing to allow the cheese to settle, then serve immediately for best taste.
Notes
- Choosing a sturdy bread like sourdough helps maintain sandwich structure during air frying.
- You can experiment with different cheese varieties for varied flavor profiles.
- Using a parchment liner helps with easier cleanup and prevents sticking.
- If you don’t have an air fryer, this recipe can be adapted for stovetop or oven cooking with adjustments to time and temperature.
- For extra flavor, consider adding herbs or thinly sliced tomato inside the sandwich before cooking.
