Ingredients
Scale
Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Filling
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup fresh blueberries
Topping
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Prepare Filling: In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix well until the mixture is smooth and creamy, ensuring an even sweetness and flavor.
- Prepare Pastry: Lightly flour a surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet. Cut the pastry into 4 equal squares to create individual pastries.
- Add Filling: Place a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square. Then, add a few fresh blueberries on top of the filling for a burst of fruity flavor.
- Form Pastries: Fold the corners of each pastry square inward over the filling to form a pocket. Press the edges firmly to seal and prevent leakage during baking.
- Apply Egg Wash: Beat the egg and brush it over the surface of each pastry. This will give the pastries a glossy, golden finish when baked. Sprinkle each with a tablespoon of sugar for extra sweetness and a slight crunch.
- Bake: Place the prepared pastries on the lined baking sheet and bake for 20–25 minutes or until they are puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the pastries to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving to let the filling set and to avoid burns.
Notes
- Make sure the cream cheese is softened to ensure a smooth filling.
- You can substitute fresh blueberries with frozen ones but thaw and drain them first to avoid excess moisture.
- If the puff pastry begins to thaw too much while working, keep it chilled to maintain its texture.
- The egg wash gives a beautiful shine and helps the sugar to stick, but you can omit it for a less glossy finish.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
