Main Ingredients
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking.
- Thaw Puff Pastry: If using frozen puff pastry, thaw it according to package instructions for best results and easy handling.
- Prepare Pastry Squares: Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut into squares or rectangles based on your preference for the final shape.
- Add Filling: Brush the top of each pastry with melted butter. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon if desired. Optionally, add a few chocolate chips in the center of each square to create chocolate-filled pastries.
- Fold and Seal: Fold each pastry square into a triangle or rectangle, pressing the edges gently to seal the filling inside and avoid spillage during baking.
- Apply Egg Wash: Whisk the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the tops of the pastries to achieve a beautiful golden-brown finish once baked.
- Bake Pastries: Arrange the filled pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crisp.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the pastries from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving for an extra touch of sweetness.
Notes
- Allow puff pastry to thaw completely before working to avoid tearing.
- Chocolate chips are optional but add a rich chocolate flavor.
- Use parchment paper for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
- Egg wash is key for a shiny, golden crust but can be skipped for a vegan version by using a plant-based alternative.
- Best served warm but can be stored in an airtight container and reheated.
