Ingredients
Scale
Cake
- 2 sticks Butter (melted)
- 1 package German chocolate cake mix (15.25 ounces)
- 3 large Eggs (divided)
Filling
- 1 package Cream cheese (8 ounces, softened)
- 1 cup Peanut butter
- 2 cups Confectioners’ sugar
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- ¾ cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ¼ cup Peanut butter chips
Topping
- ½ cup Creamy peanut butter
- ½ cup Heavy cream
Instructions
- Prepare Cake Batter: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, German chocolate cake mix, and 2 of the eggs. Mix until smooth and well combined to create the cake batter.
- Make Filling: In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, peanut butter, confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract, and the remaining egg until creamy and smooth. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and peanut butter chips gently.
- Layer the Cake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread half of the cake batter evenly into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan. Layer the cream cheese and peanut butter filling evenly over the batter, then spread the remaining cake batter on top carefully to cover the filling.
- Bake: Bake the layered cake in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the cake batter layer comes out clean (avoid the filling area). The cake should be golden and set.
- Prepare Topping: While the cake bakes, heat the creamy peanut butter and heavy cream in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring until fully combined and smooth.
- Serve: Once the cake is baked, let it cool slightly before drizzling the warm peanut butter topping over the cake. Slice into 12 pieces and serve warm or at room temperature for the optimal ooey gooey experience.
Notes
- Ensure cream cheese is fully softened for a smooth filling mixture.
- Be gentle when layering the batter over the filling to avoid mixing layers.
- Use a toothpick to test doneness but avoid the filling area as it won’t set like the cake.
- This cake is best served slightly warm to enjoy the gooey texture.
- Can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat gently before serving.
