Scale
Dip Ingredients
- 8 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
- 1 cup parmesan cheese, divided
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 1 (7.2 fluid ounce) can tomato sauce
- 5 fresh basil leaves, torn into smaller pieces
- 2 cups shredded cheddar and mozzarella blend
- 5 ounces Spanish chorizo sausage, cut into bite-size pieces
For Serving
- 1 baguette
- Butter, for frying
- Garlic powder, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Soften the cream cheese by removing it from the refrigerator ahead of time. Preheat your oven to 375°F and position the oven rack in the top third of the oven.
- Grate and Cut: If your cheeses are not pre-grated, grate both the parmesan and cheddar/mozzarella blend. Cut the Spanish chorizo into small bite-size pieces for easy topping.
- Mix Base Layer: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, half of the parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, sour cream, and salt & pepper. Mix until smooth, then spread this mixture evenly on the bottom of a baking dish such as a glass pie dish.
- Assemble Layers: Spread the tomato sauce over the cream cheese mixture, then scatter the torn basil leaves on top. Sprinkle the remaining parmesan cheese followed by the shredded cheddar/mozzarella blend evenly over the dip. Finally, top with the chorizo pieces.
- Bake the Dip: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 30 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are slightly golden.
- Prepare Garlic Baguette Toasts: While the dip bakes, slice the baguette into thin slices. Heat butter in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry each slice until golden. Just before finishing, sprinkle with garlic powder. If the pan starts to smoke, reduce the heat. Alternatively, toast the baguette in a toaster and then spread butter and sprinkle garlic powder on top.
- Serve: Remove the dip from the oven and serve hot alongside the garlic buttered baguette slices for dipping.
Notes
- Use room temperature cream cheese to ensure an even and smooth base layer.
- If you prefer less spice, use a milder chorizo or adjust the amount.
- Fresh basil adds a bright, aromatic flavor but can be omitted if not available.
- The dip can be made ahead and refrigerated; bake just before serving.
- Garlic powder on the baguette toasts provides extra flavor but can be substituted with fresh minced garlic if preferred.
