Description

A classic Margarita recipe alongside a lighter Skinny Margarita variation, both perfect for a refreshing cocktail experience. Made with tequila, lime juice, and orange-flavored liqueurs, these drinks balance tangy, sweet, and salty flavors for a crisp and delicious beverage.

Ingredients

Scale

Classic Margarita

  • 45 ml / 1.5 oz tequila
  • 30 ml / 1 oz lime juice
  • 15 ml / 0.5 oz Cointreau (or other Triple Sec)
  • 1 lime wedge, plus extra for serving
  • 1/4 cup coarse salt

Skinny Margarita

  • 60 ml / 2 oz tequila
  • 45 ml / 1.5 oz lime juice
  • 30 ml / 1 oz orange juice
  • 1 tsp light agave nectar
  • 1 lime wedge, plus extra for serving
  • 1/4 cup coarse salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glass: Rub the rim of your glass with a lime wedge to moisten it. Then, dip the rim into the coarse salt to create a salted edge for the Margarita.
  2. Make the Classic Margarita: In a shaker filled with ice, combine 45 ml tequila, 30 ml lime juice, and 15 ml Cointreau or Triple Sec. Shake well until chilled. Strain into the prepared glass and garnish with a lime wedge.
  3. Make the Skinny Margarita: In a shaker with ice, combine 60 ml tequila, 45 ml lime juice, 30 ml orange juice, and 1 tsp agave nectar. Shake thoroughly until well mixed and chilled. Strain into a glass rimmed with salt and garnish with a lime wedge.

Notes

  • The use of Cointreau or any orange-flavored Triple Sec adds a balanced sweetness and aroma to the classic Margarita.
  • The Skinny Margarita substitutes orange juice and agave nectar to reduce calories while maintaining flavor.
  • Adjust the lime juice and agave nectar to taste for more or less tartness and sweetness.
  • For best flavor, use fresh lime juice rather than bottled.
