Ingredients

Scale

Mozzarella Sticks

  • 12 Mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 1 package egg roll or wonton wrappers
  • Spray Olive oil (for coating and cooking)
  • Garlic salt (to taste)
  • Italian seasoning (to taste)
  • 1 jar julienne sun dried tomatoes

Marinara Sauce

  • 1 small can tomato sauce (6 ounce)
  • 1 small can tomato paste (6 ounce)
  • 1/2 cup filtered water
  • Coarse ground garlic salt (to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon sweet basil
  • 1 teaspoon ground oregano
  • 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic

Instructions

  1. Prepare Wrapped Mozzarella Sticks: Lay out egg roll or wonton wrappers on a plate. Spray each wrapper lightly with olive oil. Place one mozzarella stick in the center of each wrapper, then sprinkle with garlic salt, Italian seasoning, and some julienne sun-dried tomatoes. Carefully roll up the wrappers around the cheese sticks, sealing the edges to prevent leakage.
  2. Air Fry the Mozzarella Sticks: Place the wrapped mozzarella sticks into the air fryer basket in a single layer. Spray the tops lightly with olive oil and sprinkle again with garlic salt and Italian seasoning for extra flavor. Set the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and cook for 10 minutes. If you prefer a crunchier texture, continue cooking for an additional 2 minutes.
  3. Make the Marinara Sauce: While the mozzarella sticks cook, combine tomato sauce, tomato paste, and filtered water in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat. Add coarse garlic salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, sweet basil, oregano, brown sugar, onion powder, and minced garlic. Stir thoroughly, bringing the sauce to a gentle boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes until thickened and flavorful.
  4. Serve: Remove mozzarella sticks from the air fryer and serve hot with the freshly made marinara sauce for dipping. Enjoy this delicious appetizer as a snack or party treat!

Notes

  • Ensure wrappers are sealed well to prevent cheese from leaking during cooking.
  • The marinara sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 3 days.
  • For extra crispiness, do not overcrowd the air fryer basket.
  • Adjust seasoning in marinara sauce to your taste preference.
