Description

These Mashed Potatoes from Heaven are creamy, flavorful, and perfectly textured with just the right amount of seasoning. Made with butter, sour cream, cream cheese, and a blend of spices, this classic side dish is easy to prepare and sure to be a hit at any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes

  • 5 pounds potatoes

Dairy & Fats

  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1/3 cup light sour cream (+ 2 tablespoons extra)
  • 1/4 cup milk (+ 1 tablespoon extra)
  • 2 ounces cream cheese

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoning salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3 generous shakes lemon pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes: Peel and chop the potatoes into chunks. After peeling, weigh them to use about 4 pounds for cooking. Place the potatoes in a large pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil over high heat.
  2. Cook Potatoes: Once boiling, reduce heat to medium and simmer the potatoes for 20-25 minutes or until they are fork-tender. Drain the water thoroughly.
  3. Mash Potatoes: Using a potato masher, mash the potatoes while leaving some chunks for texture. Avoid using a mixer to prevent a gluey consistency.
  4. Add Dairy and Seasonings: Stir in butter, sour cream, milk, and cream cheese one ingredient at a time until well combined. Then, add salt, pepper, seasoning salt, dried parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, and lemon pepper. Mix well.
  5. Adjust and Serve: Taste and adjust seasonings if needed. If cream cheese is not available, increase sour cream slightly as a substitute. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Do not use an electric mixer to mash potatoes; it can make them gluey.
  • If you don’t have cream cheese, simply add more sour cream.
  • You can adjust the amount of seasonings according to your taste preferences.
  • Using light sour cream and milk helps keep the dish creamy but lower in fat.
