Description

This Heavenly Sugar Cream Pie is a luscious and creamy dessert featuring a rich custard filling made from heavy cream, sugar, and butter, all nestled in a crisp pre-baked pie crust. Topped with a hint of cinnamon and optionally garnished with nutmeg or whipped cream, this pie offers a comforting and indulgent treat perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Pie Crust

  • 1 pre-baked 9-inch pie crust

Filling

  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (32g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups (480ml) heavy cream
  • 4 tbsp (56g) unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Topping & Garnish

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon (for topping)
  • Optional: nutmeg or whipped cream for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). If you haven’t already, prepare and pre-bake your 9-inch pie crust. Once done, allow it to cool completely before filling.
  2. Make the Filling: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the granulated sugar and all-purpose flour to combine evenly. Slowly pour in the heavy cream while continuously whisking to avoid lumps. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook the mixture, stirring constantly, for 10 to 12 minutes or until it thickens to a custard-like consistency.
  3. Add Butter & Vanilla: Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the unsalted butter and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
  4. Fill the Pie: Carefully pour the thickened custard filling into the cooled pie crust. Use a spatula to smooth the surface evenly.
  5. Top & Bake: Sprinkle the ground cinnamon evenly over the filling. Place the pie in the oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes until the top is set and has a slight golden hue.
  6. Chill: Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool to room temperature. Then refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the filling to fully set before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the pie crust is completely cooled before adding the filling to prevent it from becoming soggy.
  • Stir the filling constantly during cooking to avoid scorching and to achieve a smooth custard texture.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle a pinch of nutmeg on top along with cinnamon or serve with fresh whipped cream.
  • Refrigerate leftovers and consume within 3 days for best freshness.
