Description

This Homemade Twix Bars recipe guides you through creating a deliciously sweet treat featuring a buttery shortbread base, a rich chewy caramel layer, and a smooth chocolate almond bark topping. Perfect for fans of the classic candy bar who want to enjoy a fresh, homemade version.

Ingredients

Scale

Shortbread Base

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup butter, softened

Caramel Layer

  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup

Chocolate Topping

  • 24 ounces chocolate almond bark
  • 1 tablespoon oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of the bars after baking.
  2. Make Shortbread Base: In a mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, flour, and softened butter until a crumbly dough forms. Press this dough evenly into the prepared pan to form the shortbread base. Bake for approximately 20 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
  3. Prepare Caramel Layer: While the shortbread bakes, combine the light brown sugar, butter, sweetened condensed milk, and corn syrup in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens and turns a golden caramel color, about 8-10 minutes. Pour this hot caramel evenly over the baked shortbread base and allow it to cool and set slightly.
  4. Chocolate Topping: Melt the chocolate almond bark with the tablespoon of oil in a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler until smooth. Pour and spread the melted chocolate evenly over the cooled caramel layer. Refrigerate for at least one hour to allow the chocolate to set fully before cutting into 15 bars.

Notes

  • Make sure the caramel is cooked to a firm stage so that it sets properly but remains chewy.
  • You can substitute the chocolate almond bark with semisweet or milk chocolate chips if preferred.
  • Store the bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator to maintain freshness and firmness.
  • For an extra crunch, consider sprinkling crushed nuts over the caramel before adding the chocolate layer.
