Ingredients
Scale
Cornbread Batter
- 1 box Jiffy Cornbread Mix
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup melted butter
Honey Butter Topping
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (optional, to balance sweetness)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking pan thoroughly to prevent sticking.
- Mix Batter: In a large bowl, combine the Jiffy Cornbread Mix, milk, egg, and melted butter. Stir gently until just combined, taking care not to overmix, which could make the cornbread tough.
- Bake Cornbread: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the top turns golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Prepare Honey Butter: While the cornbread bakes, mix together the softened butter, honey, and optional salt in a small bowl until smooth and well blended.
- Apply Honey Butter: Once the cornbread is out of the oven and still warm, brush the entire surface generously with the honey butter mixture to create a sweet and glossy finish.
- Cool and Serve: Let the cornbread cool slightly in the pan before slicing and serving. For extra flavor, add an additional dollop of honey butter on top if desired.
Notes
- Do not overmix the batter to ensure a light and tender texture.
- Use unsalted butter to control the saltiness; add salt only if desired.
- Brush with honey butter while the cornbread is warm for best absorption and shine.
- Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
- Can be paired well with chili, soups, or barbecue dishes.
