Description

This classic Chex Mix recipe combines a variety of crunchy cereals, pretzels, and whole cashews coated in a buttery, savory seasoning mix and baked to a crispy golden perfection. It’s a perfect snack mix for parties, road trips, or anytime you crave a flavorful, crunchy treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Cereals and Snacks

  • 3 cups Crispix cereal
  • 3 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 3 cups Honey Chex cereal
  • 1 cup Cheerios cereal
  • 1 cup Honey Nut Cheerios cereal
  • 1 cup Pretzel Goldfish
  • 2-3 cups whole cashews

Seasoning Sauce

  • ¾ cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1½ teaspoons seasoning salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (optional, or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet or a lasagna pan with parchment paper and set it aside for later to ensure easy cleanup and prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Snacks: In a large bowl, combine all the cereals, pretzel goldfish, and whole cashews. This mixture creates the base of your Chex Mix, providing a variety of textures and flavors.
  3. Melt Butter and Prepare Seasoning: Place a medium saucepan over low heat and melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, stir in Worcestershire sauce, seasoning salt, and ground cayenne pepper if using. Mix well to blend the flavors thoroughly.
  4. Coat the Mix: Pour the buttery seasoning mixture over the cereal and snack combination in the large bowl. Gently stir to evenly coat all pieces, ensuring every part of the mix is flavorful.
  5. Spread on Baking Sheet: Transfer the coated mix onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it out evenly into a single layer for consistent baking.
  6. Bake and Stir: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 45 to 60 minutes. Stir the mix every 15 minutes to promote even baking and prevent burning. The mix should turn a little golden and become crisp.
  7. Cool Completely: Once baked, pour the Chex Mix onto aluminum foil or another large flat surface and allow it to cool completely. This lets it crisp up further and ensures the best texture for snacking.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to make the mix more or less spicy according to your taste.
  • Store the cooled mix in an airtight container to maintain freshness for up to two weeks.
  • For a nut-free version, omit the cashews and substitute additional pretzels or cereal.
  • This mix is great for potlucks, parties, or as an anytime snack.
