Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ onion, chopped
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 ounce taco seasoning (about 2 tablespoons)
- ½ cup salsa
- 16 ounces refrigerated crescent roll dough (2 cans)
- 2 cups freshly shredded cheddar cheese
Toppings (optional)
- Salsa
- Sour cream
- Avocado
- Shredded lettuce
- Diced tomatoes
- Sliced jalapeno peppers
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F to ensure it’s ready for baking the taco ring.
- Sauté Onions: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef and taco seasoning to the skillet with the onions. Cook, stirring frequently, until the beef is browned and fully cooked through.
- Add Salsa: Stir in the ½ cup of salsa into the cooked beef mixture, then remove the skillet from heat to stop cooking.
- Prepare Crescent Dough: Open the crescent roll cans, unroll the dough, and separate it into triangles as per the packaging.
- Arrange Dough: Place a sheet of parchment paper on a large baking sheet or pizza pan. Position a 6-inch wide bowl upside down in the center of the parchment. Arrange the crescent triangles around the bowl with the short side facing inward, slightly overlapping each other to form a ring.
- Add Filling: Spoon the taco beef mixture onto the wide ends of the crescent triangles, then sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the filling.
- Fold Dough: Take the pointy end of each crescent triangle, fold it over the filling towards the center, and tuck it underneath the dough ring to seal the filling inside.
- Bake: Place the ring in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the crescent dough is golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve: Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Serve with your favorite taco toppings such as salsa, sour cream, avocado, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and sliced jalapenos for a complete and festive meal.
Notes
- Use a bowl approximately 6 inches in diameter as a guide to form the ring evenly.
- Make sure to tuck the dough ends securely to prevent filling from leaking while baking.
- Feel free to substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Freshly shredded cheese melts better than pre-shredded.
- Serve immediately for best texture; leftovers can be reheated in the oven for crispiness.
