Description

These juicy and flavorful ground chicken burgers are perfect for a healthy and delicious meal. Made with fresh herbs and a zesty lemon mayo sauce, these burgers grill to perfection with a tender texture and smoky aroma. Serve them with your favorite toppings and toasted buns for a satisfying homemade burger experience.

Ingredients

Scale

Burger Sauce

  • 1 cup mayo
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt & pepper (to taste)

Burger Patties

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 2 tablespoons mayo
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh oregano
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
  • 1 large clove garlic, minced
  • Salt & pepper (to taste)

Optional Toppings

  • Hamburger buns
  • Butter leaf lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Avocado
  • Red onion
  • Other toppings, to taste

Instructions

  1. Make the burger sauce. Stir together the mayo, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl. Taste and adjust seasoning to your preference.
  2. Preheat the grill. Oil and preheat your grill to medium-high heat to prepare for cooking the burgers.
  3. Prepare the burger mixture. In a medium-to-large bowl, combine the ground chicken, mayo, lemon juice, breadcrumbs, chopped oregano, chives, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Gently mix using your hands, being careful not to overwork the mixture to keep the burgers tender.
  4. Form the patties. Shape the mixture into six average-size patties or four larger ones, placing them on a sheet of wax paper. Press your thumb into the center of each patty to create a small depression to ensure even cooking.
  5. Grill the burger patties. Cook the patties on the grill until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F. Typical timing is about 5 minutes on the first side and 4 minutes on the second side for gas BBQ grills, but adjust based on thickness and grill heat.
  6. Toast the buns. If desired, toast the hamburger buns on the grill for approximately 30 seconds to add a warm, crispy texture.
  7. Assemble the burgers. Spread the prepared sauce onto each bun, add the cooked burger patty, and layer on your choice of toppings such as lettuce, tomato, avocado, and red onion. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the burger mixture to avoid tough burgers.
  • Creating a thumbprint in the patties helps them cook evenly without puffing up.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken burgers reach a safe internal temperature of 165°F.
  • Customize the sauce by adding more smoked paprika or lemon for extra flavor.
  • Optional toppings like avocado and red onion add freshness and texture.
  • To keep burgers moist, avoid pressing down on patties while grilling.
