Ingredients
Scale
Pasta
- 2 cups elbow macaroni (uncooked)
Salad Mix
- 1 can (5 oz) tuna, drained and flaked
- 1/4 cup chopped celery
- 1/4 cup chopped red onion
- 1/4 cup chopped pickles (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper (optional)
Dressing
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook the macaroni: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente. Drain the pasta and rinse it with cold water to cool and stop the cooking process.
- Prepare the dressing: In a large bowl, blend together the mayonnaise, sour cream, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until the mixture is smooth and evenly combined.
- Combine the salad: Add the cooled macaroni, flaked tuna, chopped celery, red onion, pickles, and bell pepper (if using) into the bowl with the dressing. Gently fold all ingredients together to thoroughly coat the salad with the dressing without breaking up the tuna.
- Chill and serve: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. This chilling step allows the flavors to meld and develop for a balanced taste.
- Serve: Serve the tuna macaroni salad chilled as a refreshing side dish or a light, satisfying meal.
Notes
- For a healthier option, substitute mayonnaise with Greek yogurt or use low-fat mayonnaise.
- Add chopped hard-boiled eggs for extra protein and texture.
- Pickles and bell peppers are optional but add a nice crunch and flavor contrast.
- This salad can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper after chilling, as flavors may meld and intensify.
