Description

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with these rich and fudgy homemade brownies studded with chocolate chips and topped with festive Valentine’s Day sprinkles. Perfectly moist and chocolaty, these brownies are ideal for sharing with your loved ones on a special occasion or just treating yourself.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Base

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (melted and cooled)
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 ¼ cups sugar
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Topping

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 ½ cups Valentine’s Day sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a 9×13 inch baking pan with baking spray to ensure easy release of the brownies after baking.
  2. Melt Butter. In a medium microwave-safe bowl, melt the unsalted butter according to your microwave’s instructions; then allow it to cool slightly before using.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, canola oil, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fully combined and smooth.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla. Whisk in the eggs one at a time followed by the 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract, mixing until the batter is smooth and glossy.
  5. Combine Dry Ingredients. In another large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, kosher salt, and baking powder to evenly distribute the leavening and cocoa.
  6. Incorporate Dry into Wet. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, whisking continuously until fully blended into a fudgy brownie batter.
  7. Fold in Chocolate Chips. Gently fold the 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips into the brownie batter, ensuring they are well distributed.
  8. Bake. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan and bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Cool Completely. Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool completely at room temperature to set before applying the topping.
  10. Make Ganache and Decorate. Heat the ½ cup heavy whipping cream until just simmering, then pour over 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips to create a ganache. Stir until smooth and spread evenly over the cooled brownies. Immediately sprinkle the 1 ½ cups of Valentine’s Day sprinkles on top to decorate while ganache is still wet. Let set before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Make sure to cool the melted butter slightly to avoid cooking the eggs when mixed.
  • Do not overmix the batter once the flour is added to ensure tender brownies.
  • Allowing the brownies to cool completely before ganache topping ensures a smooth finish.
  • You can substitute semi-sweet chocolate chips with dark or milk chocolate chips based on preference.
  • Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
