Celebrate Valentine’s Day with this indulgent and festive Valentine’s Day Skillet Cookie. Loaded with melted semi-sweet chocolate chips and colorful holiday M&Ms, this gooey, warm cookie is baked in a cast iron skillet for a perfect crispy edge and soft center. Ideal for sharing, it’s a simple yet impressive dessert that combines soft, chewy texture with crunchy candy pieces, perfect for a romantic treat or a fun family dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (softened, 2 sticks)
  • 3/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • 12 oz mini semi-sweet chocolate chips

Topping

  • 1 package holiday M&Ms or Peanut Butter M&Ms (divided, about 1 cup total; Peanut Butter M&Ms recommended)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Skillet: Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease a 12-inch cast iron skillet thoroughly with butter to prevent sticking and to add flavor.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar together using a fork or hand mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the creamed butter mixture and beat well until fully combined and smooth.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: Gradually stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix until just combined to avoid overworking the dough.
  5. Add Chocolate Chips and M&Ms: Fold in the mini semi-sweet chocolate chips and half of the holiday M&Ms. Reserve the remaining M&Ms for topping after baking.
  6. Press Dough into Skillet: Transfer the cookie dough into the prepared skillet. Press the dough evenly into the skillet’s bottom using your hands or a spatula.
  7. First Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. The cookie edges should start to brown slightly.
  8. Add Remaining M&Ms: Remove the skillet from the oven and evenly sprinkle the reserved M&Ms on top of the partially baked cookie. Press them gently into the surface.
  9. Final Bake: Return the skillet to the oven and bake for an additional 5 to 8 minutes until the center is set but still soft. Avoid overbaking to keep the cookie gooey.
  10. Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and let the skillet cookie cool for 30 to 45 minutes to set completely in the center. Serve warm or immediately with a scoop of ice cream for a luscious dessert.

Notes

  • For best results, use a well-seasoned cast iron skillet to prevent sticking.
  • Softened butter should be at room temperature for easy creaming.
  • You can substitute with standard M&Ms or white chocolate chips as desired.
  • Do not overbake; the cookie will continue to set as it cools in the skillet.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
  • Cool the cookie completely if you prefer a firmer texture before slicing and serving.
